AAA Editor Notes
McKenzie River Area is e. of Springfield. The river is noted by anglers for its rainbow trout. About 1.5 miles east of McKenzie Bridge is the 26-mile McKenzie River National Recreation Trail, accessed from SR 126. From McKenzie Bridge, SR 126 veers northward at Belknap Springs and follows the Upper McKenzie River to its headwaters at Clear Lake. At its north end is a submerged forest, inundated more than a millennium ago when a lava flow dammed the canyon. Boat rentals (motors prohibited) and campsites are available.
Note: Only very experienced rafters should attempt to raft the river without the assistance of a guide. A voluntary registration system is in place for those who attempt to navigate the river on their own.
