Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area is 3 mi. n. of jct. US 20 and US 101. The beautiful coastal headland offers the chance to explore tidal pools, hiking trails, an interpretive center, a rocky beach and Yaquina Head Lighthouse. Active since 1873, it was the fifth lighthouse built in Oregon and is the state's tallest. Wildlife enthusiasts may spot gray whales, seals, murres, cormorants and intertidal organisms. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
$7 (per vehicle); $3 (per motorcycle); free (visitors arriving by other means). Federal recreation passes are accepted.
Hours: Park gate open daily 7 a.m.-dusk. Interpretive center daily 10-5. Interpretive center hours subject to change; phone ahead to confirm schedule. Lighthouse tours are offered daily on the hour 11-4. Visitors must sign up for tours at the interpretive center.
