The Grotto (National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother) is at Sandy Blvd. at N.E. 85th Ave. The 62-acre shrine and sanctuary are maintained as a place of reflection for all faiths. A grotto at the base of a 10-story cliff serves as an outdoor cathedral. Features include flower-lined pathways under towering firs, streams, a reflection pond, sculptured bronze, marble and wood shrines, and a meditation chapel. The Grotto's upper level of manicured gardens offers views of Mount St. Helens and the Cascade Range.An elevator to the upper level operates from opening until 1 hour before closing.
Plaza level free except during some special events. Elevator fee $6; $5 (ages 55+ and military with ID); $3 (ages 6-12).
