The Grotto (National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother) is at Sandy Blvd. at N.E. 85th Ave. The 62-acre shrine and sanctuary are maintained as a place of reflection for all faiths. A grotto at the base of a 10-story cliff serves as an outdoor cathedral. Features include flower-lined pathways under towering firs, streams, a reflection pond, sculptured bronze, marble and wood shrines, and a meditation chapel. The Grotto's upper level of manicured gardens offers views of Mount St. Helens and the Cascade Range.
An elevator to the upper level operates from opening until 30 minutes before closing.
