AAA Inspector Notes
Built circa 1962 this is not the newest hotel in town but it's an urban renewal success story as it has been transformed from a tired budget motel into one of Portland's hippest hotels. Local art in the lobby and guest corridors entertain the eye as does the charcoal sketches in each guest room. The outdoor courtyard that used to hold a pool and guest parking is now more like the hotel's living room with a green living wall, lots of movable seating and three gas fireplaces that help take the chill off spring and fall evenings. Located in the business district, the hotel is on the streetcar line and within walking distance to most downtown venues. Guest rooms are on the smaller size but are modern and comfortable with a faux fur throw draped across the luxury linens that will envelope you for a restful night's slumber. Smoke free premises. 174 units. 5 stories, interior corridors.

Superb
Pros: Lovely outdoor seating area with fire pits, good food (if a wee bit pricey), room was smallish for yoga but nice and very quiet for working on presentations etc, staff was helpful and responsive at all hours. I really appreciated the hotel policy regarding green issues- it's nice to stay in a room that feels luxurious without being wasteful. Was a good location for me- close, but not too close to a conference I was attending, and just a few steps from buses and trains.
Cons: When might the $5 credit for declining daily room cleaning show up on my receipt? Could there be a more obvious place to place items for recycling when packing up and departing? Could stumptown coffee be available in the rooms?

Well located and modern
Pros: The hotel is very modern, new and well located. The public transportation is in front of the hotel. They have a good restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Despite of my negative comments, I would stay in this hotel again.
Cons: The room is small, but not bad for a couple. The bathroom is also small and the door doesn't close completely, so you don't have privacy. The bath tube wasn't draining the water and as soon as I informed front desk they sent someone to fix it. The parking valet is VERY expensive, but you can leave your car in another parking lot and walk to the hotel. It's not convenient, but also not a big deal. Bring your earplugs because the walls are very thin.
