Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area is at 211 S.W. Austin St. The park offers self-guiding tours with interpretive displays that cover the history and operation of the gold dredge. While in operation from 1935 through 1954, the dredge mined more than $4 million worth of gold by hauling large buckets of earth into its machinery, separating the gold out and depositing the waste rock or “tailings” behind the dredge.
Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
