John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum is off I-95S exit 14, 1.5 mi. n.e. on Bartram Ave., then 1 mi. n. on 84th St., following signs to 86th St. & Lindbergh Blvd. The refuge contains 1,000 acres of what was once tidal wetlands. More than 300 bird species have been recorded at the site, and approximately 80 of those species nest here. Opossums, raccoons, deer, foxes, muskrats and state-endangered turtles and frogs also can be seen.

The Cusano Environmental Education Center presents nature exhibits. Boardwalks and trails offer opportunities for wildlife observation, hiking, fishing and bicycling. A canoe and kayak trail also is available. Naturalists conduct nature walks and education programs.
