Old Economy Village, at 270 16th St. at jct. Church St., derives its title from the town of Oekonomie, built 1824-30 by the Harmony Society, a German communal group. Comprising 6.5 acres, the village contains 17 historic structures available for touring; the restored buildings showcase collections from the society. Historic formal gardens also are featured. A visitor center offers an orientation film, permanent and changing exhibits and a Works Progress Administration (WPA) mural depicting the Harmony Society. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
$10; $9 (ages 65+); $6 (ages 3-11); free (ages 0-3 and active military with ID).
Hours: Visitor center Wed.-Sat. 10-5, Sun. noon-5. Guided tours depart on the hour Tues.-Sat. 10-3, Sun. noon-3. Tour times vary; phone ahead to confirm. Closed major holidays except Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day.
