John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove is at Audubon and Pawlings rds. On the 175-acre nature preserve is Mill Grove, home in the early 1800s of John James Audubon, noted artist, author and naturalist. Now a museum, the house contains displays of Audubon's paintings, drawings and taxidermy specimens. Numerous trails wind through the grounds, which serve as a wildlife sanctuary. At press time, the museum was closed for renovation and was scheduled to reopen in spring 2016. Phone ahead for updates. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
$5; $4 (ages 60+); $3 (ages 5-17).
Hours: Grounds daily dawn-dusk. Museum Tues.-Sat. 10-4, Sun. 1-4. Closed Jan. 1, Easter, July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
