Carlisle Barracks is at 870 Jim Thorpe Rd. This was the site of a Revolutionary War forge and is one of the oldest Army posts in the United States. The Hessian Powder Magazine Museum is in the 1777 structure built by Hessian prisoners who had been captured at the Battle of Trenton the previous December. The army post is home to the U.S. Army War College. Note: All non-Department of Defense ID card holders ages 18 and older must undergo a background check and present a valid photo ID to obtain a visitor's pass for unescorted access to the base; visitors should allow extra time to obtain a pass.
