Carlisle Barracks is 1 mi. n. on US 11 at 122 Forbes Ave. This was the site of a Revolutionary War forge and is one of the oldest Army posts in the United States. The Hessian Powder Magazine Museum is in the 1777 structure built by Hessian prisoners who had been captured at the Battle of Trenton the previous December. The army post is home to the U.S. Army War College.
