AAA Editor Notes
Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg National Military Park, at 97 Taneytown Rd., just n. of the museum and visitor center, consists of 17 acres and contains the graves of 3,555 Union Civil War dead, 1,600 of them unknown. The Soldiers' National Monument stands near the spot where President Lincoln delivered his immortal dedication address Nov. 19, 1863, to some 15,000 people. Veterans from the Civil War through the Vietnam War, along with their dependents, are buried here.

Since the official closing in 1972, no more burials except for the dependents of those veterans already interred are possible. Interpretive walks are given seasonally.

Self-guiding walking tour brochures for the cemetery and other battlefield sites may be purchased at the Museum and Visitor Center bookstore at Gettysburg National Military Park.

Guided tours are available.
