Lake Wallenpaupack Environmental Preserve is just w. of US 6 and has multiple access points in Hawley and nearby towns; the learning center is at 126 PPL Dr. The highlight is 5,700-acre, 13-mile Lake Wallenpaupack, the state's third largest man-made lake. Recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, hiking, waterskiing and ice fishing, are abundant. Lake Wallenpaupack Overlook, on SR 590, and Tafton Dike Observation Area, junction US 6 and SR 507, provide scenic views. A good place to start exploring the area is the PPL Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center, which features displays about the lake, a cut glass display from a local collector, a Native American dugout canoe and a library. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
