Lost River Caverns and the Gilman Museum are .5 mi. e. of SR 412 at 726 Durham St. The limestone cavern contains five chambers of crystal formations. One chamber, the Crystal Chapel, was used for weddings and baptisms. The formations include stalagmites, stalactites, flowstone and dripstone. Displays include a tropical garden, museum of natural history, rocks, minerals, gems and antique weapons. A nature trail, a picnic grove and gem panning also are available.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
Guided walking tours daily 9-6, Memorial Day weekend-Labor Day; 9-5, rest of year. Closed Jan. 1, Easter morning, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Closes early Christmas Eve and Dec. 31. Allow 1 hour minimum.
