Inclined Plane, SR 56 and Johns St., is 996 feet long with a grade of 71 percent, making it one of the steepest passenger inclined planes in the world. It connects the central part of Johnstown with a residential suburb on a plateau 502 feet above the city. Both cars and pedestrians are carried. An observation platform at the top overlooks the city. Food is available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
Round-trip fare $4; $2.50 (ages 2-12); free (ages 65+). One-way fare $2.25; $1.50 (ages 2-12). Cars, vans and trucks one-way fare $6; motorcycles $4; bicycles free.
Hours: Mon.-Thurs. 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Fri. 8 a.m.-11 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m.-11 p.m., Sun. 9 a.m.-10 p.m., Apr.-Sept.; Sun.-Thurs. 11-9, Fri.-Sat. 10-10, Oct.-Dec.; Fri. 4-10, Sat. noon-10, Sun. noon-9, rest of year. Closed Jan. 1 and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
