Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, at 1700 Hawk Mountain Rd. on Blue Mountain, offers bird-watching opportunities during the fall raptor migrations. Designated as a national natural landmark, the 2,600-acre site features scenic views of the forested Appalachian mountaintops, bold rock promontories and 8 miles of hiking trails. The visitor center contains birds of prey exhibits and a museum. Hawk and eagle migrations take place early April to mid-May and late August through late November. Pets are not permitted.
$9; $7 (ages 65+); $5 (ages 6-12).
Hours: Trails daily dawn-dusk. Visitor center daily 9-5, Dec.-Aug.; 8-5, rest of year. Visitor center closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Trails closed Mon.-Tues. after Thanksgiving. Allow 2 hours minimum.
