LancasterHistory.org, 230 N. President Ave. at jct. Marietta Ave., houses a 15,000-item artifact collection featuring more than 200 paintings and prints, textiles, glass, ceramics and furniture. The family history research center and library contain more than 2 million historic manuscripts, 90,000 Lancaster County photographs and an Amish quilt collection. The 10-acre grounds include the Tanger Arboretum with more than 100 species of trees from around the world, and President James Buchanan's Wheatland.

Hours: Mon.-Sat. 9:30-5; closed first two weeks in Jan., Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas and Dec. 31. Arboretum daily dawn-dusk.
