AAA Editor Notes
Grave of Gen. John A. Sutter is in the Moravian Cemetery behind the church on E. Main St. It was the discovery of gold on Gen. Sutter's property near Sacramento, Calif., that started the rush of 1849. From 1871, Sutter lived in Lititz while petitioning Congress to receive compensation for damages to his California property caused by gold seekers. Sutter died in 1880 without Congress having decided the matter.
