American Swedish Historical Museum, 1900 Pattison Ave. in Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park, features 12 permanent galleries as well as changing exhibits. A research library focuses on the history of Swedes in America from the establishment of the New Sweden Colony in 1638 to modern accomplishments in technology, architecture, and the fine and decorative arts. A Pippi Longstocking-themed gallery features interactive exhibits. Original drawings of the USS Monitor and other works by John Ericsson also are presented. Traditional Swedish holidays are celebrated year-round.
