Brandywine River Museum of Art
AAA Editor Notes
Brandywine River Museum of Art, on US 1 at 1 Hoffman's Mill Rd., is a 19th-century gristmill converted into a museum housing a collection of American art and illustration. Works by three generations of the Wyeth family are featured, with individual galleries devoted to N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. The galleries in the restored mill have original beams and pine floors. The museum grounds are landscaped with native plants and wildflowers.

Via a museum shuttle bus, visitors may take a 1-hour guided tour of the nearby Andrew Wyeth Studio, where the artist worked 1940-2008; the N.C. Wyeth house and studio, restored to their 1945 appearance, or Kuerner Farm, the inspiration for nearly 1,000 works completed during Andrew Wyeth's 70-year friendship with the Kuerner family.

Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
