AAA Editor Notes
Capt. James Lawrence House, 459 High St. in the Burlington County Historical Society Complex, is the birthplace of the American naval hero of the War of 1812. The commander of the USS Chesapeake engaged in battle against the HMS Shannon, and the mortally wounded Lawrence issued his famous last command, remembered as “Don't give up the ship.” The house is furnished in period and also contains a toy collection.
