James A. Michener Art Museum, 138 S. Pine St., is in the renovated 1884 Bucks County prison. The permanent collection features Daniel Garber's 22-foot-mural, “A Wooded Watershed,” as well as 19th- and 20th-century regional American art, including many fine pieces by Pennsylvania Impressionists. A permanent exhibit about author James A. Michener re-creates the Bucks County office where he wrote “Tales of the South Pacific.” The Patricia D. Pfundt Sculpture Garden features items that pay homage to the area landscape. Nationally touring special exhibitions and regional artists also are showcased. Educational programs and music and dance performances are offered throughout the year.
