Japanese House and Garden is off Montgomery Dr. at Belmont Mansion Dr. next to the Horticulture Center within Fairmount Park. The house was built in Japan in 1953 in a style that would have been intended for an educated upper-class person living in the 16th- or 17th century; the house displays a combination of elements from both centuries. The America-Japan Society of Tokyo gave it to New York's Museum of Modern Art for an exhibition, and afterward it was moved to Philadelphia.
A tea house adjoins the main house. A pond and ornamental garden also are on the grounds.
A tea ceremony is held on occasional Sunday afternoons by reservation.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
