The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University is at 19th St. and Benjamin Franklin Pkwy. Founded in 1812, it is said to be the oldest natural history museum in America. Outstanding among the natural science exhibits are the children's discovery center, Outside-In; and Dinosaur Hall, where fossils of prehistoric giants are displayed. The Butterflies! exhibit is a walk-through tropical garden with live butterflies from around the world and a display of live pupae. Marveling at Mollusks features specimens of clams, scallops, chambered nautiluses and other mollusks. Live animal shows, historical dioramas, films and special programs also are offered.
