Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, 4400 Forbes Ave., was constructed in 1895 and is one of the nation's foremost public libraries. It contains more than 4.8 million items, including archives, audio recordings, books, electronic resources, magazines, newspapers and photographs. Cultural, educational and recreational programs also are offered throughout the year. Guided tours are available by appointment. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
