The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is off Butler St. w. of the Highland Park Bridge. The 77-acre site is home to 9,000 animals representing 900 species. Animals are featured in naturalistic exhibits such as a tropical forest, Asian forest and an African savanna. The Kids Kingdom offers sea lions and a petting zoo with alpaca and goats as well as a play area. The Islands exhibit features warty pigs, siamang gibbons and Philippine crocodiles. Capybaras, fossas, giant anteaters, a pygmy hippo and ocelots are found at Jungle Odyssey.

The PPG Aquarium features species from habitats such as the Amazon River, Antarctica, the tropics and Pennsylvania streams and rivers. The Water's Edge exhibit offers up-close views of polar bears, sea otters and two northern elephant seals and sea lions together; two underwater tunnels afford views of the bears and northern elephant seals swimming overhead and around visitors.

A tram provides transportation within the park spring through fall.
