Friendship Hill National Historic Site is 3 mi. n. on SR 166; self-guiding tours begin at the visitor center. The scenic 661-acre site features the Gallatin House, home of Albert Gallatin 1789-1832. Gallatin served as the federal treasury secretary for Presidents Jefferson and Madison. Gallatin also was an ardent abolitionist. Ten miles of nature and hiking trails wind through the site.
Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Hours: Grounds daily dawn-dusk. Gallatin House daily 9-5, May-Sept.; Sat.-Sun., Nov.-Mar.; Fri.-Mon. in April and Oct. Closed Jan. 1, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
