Hans Herr House is 4 mi. s. on US 222, then .7 mi. s. to 1849 Hans Herr Dr. Built in 1719, this is believed to be the oldest building in Lancaster County and the oldest Mennonite meetinghouse in America. The medieval-style Germanic stone house has been depicted in several paintings by Andrew Wyeth, a descendant of Hans Herr. The site includes the restored house, a Mennonite farm exhibit, a blacksmith shop, a native American longhouse and a visitor center. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Herr House or Longhouse tour $8; $4 (ages 7-12). Combination ticket $15; $7 (ages 7-12).
Hours: Mon.-Sat. 9-4, Apr.-Nov. Herr House tours are given at 9, 11, 1 and 3. Last tour begins one hour before closing. Longhouse tours at 10, noon and 2. Closed Easter weekend and Thanksgiving. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
