Confederation Centre of the Arts is downtown at jct. Grafton and Queen sts. Canada's national memorial to the Fathers of Confederation, this arts and culture center is recognized for its musical theater and choral productions, art exhibitions and heritage programs. The center houses the Homburg Theatre and several other theaters, a public library and an outdoor amphitheater. The Mack Theatre, part of the complex, is on the corner of University Avenue and Grafton Street. The center's art gallery has a permanent collection that includes more than 15,000 works of Canadian historical and contemporary art. Featured are works by Canada's foremost portrait artist, Robert Harris, and the original manuscript for Lucy Maud Montgomery's “Anne of Green Gables.” The center also hosts the Charlottetown Festival's comedy, dramatic and musical productions from early July to late September. Food is available.
Gallery admission by donation. Outdoor musical productions free. Ticket prices for the Charlottetown Festival range from $25-$79. Reservations are recommended for all ticketed events.

Hours: Art gallery open daily 9-5 (also Thurs. 5-8 p.m.), mid-May to mid-Oct.; Wed.-Sat. 11-5, Sun. 1-5, rest of year. Musical productions are offered at the outdoor amphitheater Mon.-Sat. at noon, July-Aug. Closed major holidays. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
