Cape Bear Lighthouse and Marconi Museum is 6 km (4 mi.) e. on Hwy. 18. Overlooking the Northumberland Strait, the lighthouse has guided vessels since 1881. Visitors are permitted to climb to the top of the lighthouse. A replica of the Marconi station that stood beside the lighthouse 1905-22 also is on-site. The museum features maritime artifacts, audiovisual displays, archival photographs and artwork. This is said to be one of the first Canadian land dispatch centers to hear the distress signals from the sinking Titanic.
