AAA Editor Notes
Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Preserve is on Hwy. 987. Surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean, this 321-acre reserve protects a variety of ecological systems, including coral reefs, offshore cays, lagoons, mangroves, a dry forest and a bioluminescent lagoon. The park is accessible only by a 2.5-hour guided tour that combines riding aboard an open-air trolley and walking along boardwalks and nature trails. The last stop is the castle-like lighthouse, Faro de las Cabezas de San Juan, one of the oldest on the island.
Guided tours are available.
