AAA Editor Notes
Hacienda Iruena Manor House is off Hwy. 2 on Rte. 464 near Isabela. This beautiful two-story manor, once part of a French coffee and sugar plantation, was completed in 1905. One of the first houses on the island built with concrete, it was originally called Castillo Labadie. Novelist Enrique Arturo Laguerre immortalized the estate in his best-known work, “La Llamarada.” The yellow mansion features stained-glass windows and period furnishings. A mausoleum contains the remains of Laguerre.
