Hacienda Buena Vista

Hacienda Buena Vista is 10 mi. (16 km) n. on Hwy. 10 in Barrio Magüeyes. Considered one of the best surviving examples of a Puerto Rican coffee plantation, this 19th-century estate includes nearly a dozen restored buildings, including a working mill and a two-story hacienda furnished with period antiques. The farm was one of the first to establish a nutrition program for slaves. A scenic waterfall provides power to the coffee mill. Guided 1.5-hour tours, available in Spanish or English, describe the history of the plantation and the cultivation of coffee.
