The Native Museum of Mashteuiatsh (Le Musée Amérindien de Mashteuiatsh), 1787 rue Amishk, is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the First Nations peoples who first inhabited the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region. The Ilnuatsh, as they are known, are represented through archeology, art and hand crafts. Educational films highlight the traditional Montagnais lifestyle. In summer the Uashassihtsh Cultural Centre can also be visited. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Museum $12.50; $10.50 (ages 65+ and students with ID); $7.50 (ages 6-12); $34 (family, two adults and three children or two students). Museum and Cultural Centre $20; $16 (ages 65+ and students with ID); $12 (ages 6-12); $56 (family, two adults and three children or two students).
Hours: Museum daily 9-6, May 12-Oct. 11; Mon.-Fri. 8-noon and 1-4, rest of year. Cultural Centre daily 9-6, June 6-Sept. 19.
