Grande Bibliothèque, 475 boul. de Maisonneuve Est (M: Berri-UQAM), is a major public library and the province's largest cultural institution. Offered in French and English, 90-minute guided tours describe the collections—part of Québec's national archives—housed on-site as well as the library's history and mission. The contemporary building houses more than 4 million documents, including 1 million books. A variety of cultural presentations, such as art exhibits, literary events and live performances, are held here periodically. Le Square, which opened in 2016, is a digital area aimed at ages 13-17, where they can learn about audio and visual creation, animation, robotics, 3-D printing and other technological advances or simply relax, read and play games. Self-guiding audio tours in French or English are available. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Hours: Library open Tues.-Thurs. 10-10, Fri.-Sun. 10-6. Main exhibition hall open Tues.-Thurs. noon-10, Fri.-Sun. 10-6. Le Square open Tues.-Fri. 2-10, Sat.-Sun. 10-6. Reservations are required for guided tours. Closed major holidays.
