AAA Inspector Notes
A celebrity owner, like Iron Chef winner Chuck Hughes, would be enough to raise the hype for this chic dimly-lit pub, but it is the upscale bistro food that really steals the show. Two of the most popular dishes, which are displayed on a simple chalkboard, are braised short ribs and Quebec-style poutine with added morsels of lobster. The large seafood platters are a hit for those who like the freshest available produce. For dessert, the fried Mars bar or molasses cookie fit the bill. Other menu items sharing the spotlight include duck breast with foie gras, jerk crab, salmon tartar, scallops, grilled octopus with clams, peach salad with Stilton and prosciutto, or a tomato and avocado salad with fried cheese. If you're thirsty, you might want to try a Montreal-brewed Bierbrier pilsner, a bloody Caesar with a large crab leg or choose from a carefully selected variety of fine wines by the glass or bottle. Expect loud music throughout the meal and a bar ambience to kick in later in the evening. Reservations are taken up to one month in advance so expect the weekend spots to fill immediately—ask for a restaurant table or you might get seated at the cramped bar area.
