AAA Inspector Notes
This restaurant, taking its name from a benevolent 19th-century tavern owner in Montreal, resembles a modest neighborhood tavern with wood floors, pub chairs, banquette seating and hooks on the wall to hang coats. However, the fine china and cloth tablecloths set an elegant tone for the fine food conceived by accomplished Montreal chefs David McMillan and Frederic Morin. Excellent menu ingredients and fine wines are scribbled on a chalkboard wall menu. Offerings may include such items as oysters on the half shell, superb fish (flown in), high-quality seafood, Dover sole, beef bavette, filet mignon with bone marrow and lobster parmentier. The 35-seat restaurant has developed a loyal following among fine-cuisine-loving foodies, therefore, advance reservations are a must.
