Historic Chevalier House (Maison Historique Chevalier), part of Museum of Civilization, is at 50 rue du Marché-Champlain, next to Place-Royale. It was built for ship owner Jean-Baptiste Chevalier in 1752. Restored in 1959, the renovated structure today encompasses the neighboring Frérot and Chesnay Houses (Maisons Frérot and Chenay) and re-creates the feel and atmosphere of the 18th and 19th centuries. On the ground floor, the Centre d'interprétation de la vie urbaine presents Vieux-Québec: Secrets and Stories; a self-guiding audio tour is included.
Guided tours are available in French or English; the language used is determined by the preference of the first registered participant for that tour. Visitors must register at the reception pavilion.
