Park of the Basque Adventure in America (Parc de l'aventure basque en Amérique) is at 66 rue du Parc. The riverfront museum describes the history of nearby Île-aux-Basques, frequented by Basque explorers and whalers in the 16th century. Originally from France and Spain, the fishermen set up seasonal camps along the St. Lawrence River. Interactive exhibits chart the movement of the fishermen and also detail archeological discoveries and early Basque settlements. Visitors are introduced to pelote basque, a sport played with a ball and a wooden bat on an outdoor court. Other recreational activities, including biking, hiking and kayaking, are additional options.
Guided tours in English are available by appointment. Interpretive displays are in French; however, an English translation is available.
