Church of Santa Clara

Church of Santa Clara (Iglesia de Santa Clara) is at the corner of Calle Ignacio Allende and Calle Francisco I. Madero, just w. of the Neptune Fountain. Founded in 1633 and reconstructed during the 18th century by architect Eduardo Tresguerras, Santa Clara had one of Mexico's richest nunneries. It is noted for its ornately carved interior, gilded altarpieces and delicate exterior ironwork.
