AAA Editor Notes

Breathing Observation Bubble (BOB) excursions depart from the Aquaworld Marina. The tour begins with a ride aboard a motorboat through Nichupté Lagoon to Chitales, an offshore coral reef. At the reef site participants board the main BOB boat, where they receive instruction on how to operate the observation bubble, a submersible, scooter-like mini-submarine. The contraption is then lowered about 20 feet into the water for a 30-minute sightseeing session, with the plastic bubble around the rider's head supplying oxygen and a view of the reef's abundant marine life. Beverages and a fresh fruit snack are provided after the session. A separate snorkeling trip is also part of the BOB package; equipment is provided.
Single BOB session about $70 (U.S.). Marine park/dockage fee $10. BOB participants must be between 12 and 60 years of age and at least 5 feet tall. Children under 5 are not permitted on the boat ride. Boat passengers and BOB participants must be able to swim.
Hours: Departures daily at 9, 10:30, noon, 1:30 and 3.
