Cons: There could have been a better variety in terms of dessert. The pool bar could have been open a little later. There also could have been more authentic Mexican dishes.
Excellent value - Great Service...
Pros: Loved the service, clean and manicured property, and the rooms were nice. Food was very good and everyone was friendly.
Privilege Room - Enjoyed the private eating area and beach area. Also, access to some of the top shelf liquor was nice.
The wildlife on the property is amazing.
The pool layouts are great. (1) pool just for relaxing and another pool where volleyball and activities are going with a swim up bar.
Cons: Because there is not much air circulation in the entertainment/lobby area, we melted in our nice clothes at night, thus this lead to us either going back to the room to cool down or leaving the property. (Extra fans, or cooling down the lobby area would be amazing)
We chose Privileged rooms to gain room service at night, and every night the order was inaccurate and/or took longer than promised. Also promised lobster on our last night, and the blue moon restaurant said they didn't have us listed, which we talked to a Privilege staff member in person that said it would be ready for us.
I wish the beach and water were more pristine, but it appears mother nature has taken its toll. You can tell they work hard to make the beach area nice.
Overall a fantastic resort
Pros: Always something to do never a boring moment. Plenty of selection when it came to the food. All inclusive was the way to go. Would go again
Cons: Privilege program not worth the extra money. Beach wasn't great
good stay for the money
Pros: Everything was good. Staff was great.
Cons: Beds and pillows were a bit uncomfortable. Was put in a two small bed room for two nights until a king bed opened
Cons: I requested a double room, once I paid they put me in a single room and put a cot in the room for me to sleep on. I suffer from cronic back pain. After sleeping on the cot I was in so much pain I couldn't walk or enjoy the excursion I paid for
Nice resort grounds but that's...
Pros: The resort grounds (aside from the beach) were beautiful. There was one swim up bar, but plenty of other bars all over the resort. There are different shows every night for entertainment. The staff was friendly and accommodating. When you were able to make it into one of the restaurants, the food was actually pretty good.
Cons: The restaurants are first come first serve and it was common to get turned away and told to come back at a later time. The one restaurant that you didn't have to make a reservation for was a buffet, and the food was mediocre. The beach itself was covered in seaweed and very small. There were only a handful of umbrellas on the beach so if you didn't get there very early, you wouldn't get to use one of the umbrellas... this was huge for me because that sun was so unforgiving and absolutely scorching, there was no way we could stay out in the open for very long. Our only option for cover was away from the beach. We were upgraded to a Privilege room... The bed in my room was too firm and uncomfortable. Room service provided few options, average food, and a long wait. Our shower leaked all over the bathroom floor with every use. The spa is extremely overpriced. Aside from the actual resort grounds, there was no wow-factor. I like to travel for the beautiful scenery, but this location unfortunately doesn't provide that.
Overall great place
Pros: Pleasant stay- good beach - plenty of beach chairs - good food and drinks - friendly service all around
Cons: Pillows made it really hard to sleep
Pros: Reception was very friendly. The a la Carte Italian was delicious.
Cons: I was told my bag would be delivered to my room. I waited there for 45 minutes before getting fed up and walking back to reception. There was my bag- sitting all alone with no one around. So I ended up just taking it back myself. I didn't realize the beach area was so small- basically non existent
Solid 4 star resort for...
Pros: We were a group of 4 girlfriends traveling - so this hotel was a great option for us.The resort is set up as groups of buildings - each with 2 stories. Building 12 was in a good corner because it was near beach and pool but quiet (not that noise was a huge factor as this resort is low-key). Rooms 1205 and 1206 had great ocean views. The rooms were very clean. Everything looked nice and modern but was a little bit worn (making if more a 4 star than a 5 star room). Room was large.Despite being an adult-only place, it wasn't overly full of spring breakers. This is more for the middle aged crowd as it is not loud and crazy, but it isn't a sleepy place either. And it wasn't full of couples that were looking for privacy everywhere, so as 4 friends traveling, we felt comfortable. The action is all in the lobby bar area at night. The fruit was very good and they did have juice bars where you could get healthy smoothies all day. There was a lot of variety for breakfast, but somehow less for lunch/dinner options. Even saw some gluten-free cookies and bread. If you want a big sandy beach to lay on, this is NOT for you. The beach is nice and they have beautiful sand, but this part of Playa del Carmen has minimal shoreline (probably from previous hurricanes destroying the beach). I'd recommend water shoes for those that do want to go in as there is seaweed (the signs explain seaweed helps rebuild the beach so it is a good thing). We visited Xel-Ha and loved it.Lots of wild animals roam the properties - like coatis (looks like a lemur/raccoon mix), raccoons, iguanas and deer at night. Get a room on the 2nd floor so you don't have to worry about animals coming in to your room if you want to keep the door open. The animals don't bother you, but the coatis do come and try to scavenge for food constantly and even kept trying to wander in to the hotel.
Cons: The air conditioner made an annoying noise (room 1206) but it did cool the room well. The light on our patio remained on all night (couldn't shut it off). All the doors to the room slam LOUDLY so you know every time someone arrives and leaves their room in your block of rooms.
The food was all mediocre. It was fresh, but kind of unimaginative. I would have loved to see more authentic Mexican food from a variety of different parts or Mexico, than having Italian or Japanese food.
The Italian restaurant was very blah. The drinks were all definitely watered down - so most people were asking for "double rum", for example, in their piña coladas.
The best coffee was from the bar in the lobby.
Pros: The Coati animals were so cute.
Cons: The pillows were awful.
Great bang for your buck.
Pros: The resort is so well cared for. Really friendly staff. Great food, especially the Japanese and Blue moon restaurants. Oly at the lobby bar is tons of fun.Jorge at the front desk was very friendly. Ana the pool and beach server works ridiculouly hard.
Cons: Do not book this resort if you are a beach person. The beach is sorely lacking. The pools are however lovely and clean.
Pros: The entertainment group, the food, the service.
Cons: On arrival, during registration at the reception desk the immigration declaration portion was removed from our passports and not returned. This cost us $60.00 (2 x $30.00) at the airport on our return trip!
