The original portion of this hotel opened in 1926. The elegant brick facade is stunning in season with flowering pots decorating the windows and gardens. Rooms feature an upscale progressive design. Classic Georgian and Queen Anne furnishings compliment the era the hotel was built and create a graceful ambiance throughout the hotel. All rooms feature pillowtop mattresses with Egyptian cotton bed linens and ornately-carved headboards. The hotel is centrally located near many shops and restaurants, and the on-site spa is one of the top rated in the city. Afternoon tea is available for an additional cost but is well worth the price as it includes delectable tea sandwiches, house-made-scones with preserves and petit fours. Ten rooms feature new BedJet technology offering adjustable climate control for the beds, providing enhanced comforts for warm or cold nights. Smoke free premises. 209 units, some two bedrooms. 4-5 stories, interior corridors.

Decided to stay here for a night after doing the Christmas Mansion tours. While the staff were very friendly and pleasant, overall I was not impressed with this hotel. Our room was tiny. The furniture and decor seemed tired and worn, and the bed skirt was stained. The big screen tv was hung awkwardly over the desk due to sloping ceilings and didn't have a DVD player, which is probably unimportant to most people. It was also limited on channels (did not even have a local New England sports channel). So no Christmas movie watching via the DVD player or Celtics game after dinner and drinks. The bathroom was tiny, like closet sized. The shower head didn't seem fastened tight enough to the pipe in the wall nor was the toilet fastened to the the floor and rocked when you got off it. I also didn't like the community soap/shampoo dispensers that everyone staying in these rooms are sharing. Kinda gross. The heating system was really loud, making it difficult to sleep. Don't lift the lid to the box housing the heat vent. It probably hasn't been cleaned in years and just looking at it made me think great, I'm breathing all that dust and junk in every time the heat turns on.The room offered $6 tiny bottles of water and a $6 delivery charge for room service. Not to mention the $16 resort fee, for amenities we didn't use (spa and pool, really?) Felt like this place was really nickle and diming you.The lobby decor was modern but odd and not fitting at all with the old brick facade of the hotel on the outside. There was a cheesy band playing really loud cover songs from the 80s in the bar which is pretty much in the lobby. The Christmas decorations were lacking. The people at reception were nice but I just wasn't impressed and didn't get a good feeling from this place. It wasn't pretty, clean or comfortable enough at all for the price. The location is great, right at the beginning of Bellevue with the mansions, center of town, great restaurants like Corner Cafe and the Mooring all right down the road.
Pros: Location
Cons: Everything mentioned in my review.
Family with Young Children
Pros: Close to all the mansions, great walk also the outside firepit.
Traveling as Couple
Pros: We arrived to find that the hotel had experienced catastrophic flooding and they were unable to accommodate our reservation. The concierge provided us with a room at another hotel 2 blocks away at no cost to us. The staff was professional and courteous.

Pros: In town location near the Mansions was great. Very clean room with coffee, pot, ironing board, hair dryer etc. Twin queen beds are very hard to find. Heat and air conditioning worked great and quite. Vale service was excellent. Available fridge & mini bar
Cons: Bathroom to small, front desk, housekeeping and room service need more training, walking and urinating upstairs could be heard. Mattresses very noisy. Food and bev. overpriced & tasteless. A 7:30 am wake up call was not requested. No local info available
