AAA Inspector Notes
This classic New England turn-of-the-century resort was fully restored into an unrivaled destination set within a spectacular natural setting along a pond and estuary that is home to numerous birds. A full time "naturalist" coordinates daily activities, which may include bird-watching, beach-walk craft making, and star gazing at night. Try your hand at shuffleboard, bocce, kayaking or even yoga on paddle boards in the summer on the calm pond waters. In season, an electric boat cruise goes out twice daily and provides a guided history of the area. Access to a private ocean beach with attendants is also available in the warmer months. S'mores by the outdoor fire pit is offered in the evening, weather permitting. There is also a complimentary guest pantry with daily changing snacks, soda, water, and self-serve gourmet coffee machine that will cater to your espresso/cappuccino fix. The resort first opened its doors in 1899, and then moved to its breathtaking Quonochontaug Pond location in 1939 after the great hurricane of 1938. It was then fully restored and reopened in 2011 with today's luxe amenities, including Matouk bedding, rain shower heads and spa-quality bath amenities. A nostalgic intercom system is used instead of phones in rooms. During the winter, guests can cozy up by the crackling fireplace with a good book while sipping a complimentary hot chocolate and apple cider or venture outside to enjoy snowshoeing. Guests have access to amenities at their sister property, the Ocean House in Watch Hill. Hotel staff can make reservations and schedule complimentary in-house transportation to their sister property's spa or fine dining restaurant located approximately fifteen minutes away. Smoke free premises. 33 units, some two bedrooms and kitchens. 2-4 stories, interior corridors. Accessibility (Call).
