AAA Inspector Notes
Inspector Pick (Family friendly): Unique children's programs change daily to keep our young ones entertained with fun crafts, scavenger hunts, and culinary education to name a few.
Be prepared to 'unplug' and experience 'barefoot elegance' at this turn-of-the-century resort. This fully restored family-friendly resort offers so many unique activities you may never care to leave. There is a full time 'naturalist' on staff that coordinates daily activities, which may include bird-watching, beach-walk craft making and star gazing at night. Try your hand at shuffleboard, boccie, kayaking or even yoga on paddleboards in summer on the calm pond waters. In season, an electric boat cruise goes out twice daily and provides a guided history of the area. Access to a private beach with beach butlers is also available in the warmer months. S'mores by the outdoor fire pit is offered daily, weather permitting, 7-10 pm. There is also a complimentary guest pantry with four-times-daily changed snack, soda, water and self-serve gourmet coffee machine that will cater to your espresso/cappuccino fix. The resort first opened its doors in 1899, then moved to its breathtaking Quonochontaug Pond location in 1939 after the great hurricane of 1938. It was then fully restored and reopened in 2011 with today's luxe amenities, including Matouk bedding, rain shower heads and spa-quality bath amenities...but don't expect modern conveniences like phones as this property offers a nostalgic intercom system instead. They also offer a limited number of iPads for you to use around the property. There is also a communal TV room with a DVD player and board games to relax in. In Winter, guests can cozy up by the fireplace with a good book while sipping a complimentary hot chocolate and apple cider or venture outside to enjoy snowshoeing. Guests have access to amenities at their sister property, the Ocean House in Watch Hill. Hotel staff can make reservations and schedule complimentary in-house van transportation to their sister property's spa or fine dining restaurant located approximately five miles away.
Smoke free premises. 32 units, some two bedrooms, kitchens and houses. 2-4 stories, interior corridors.
