The Powder Magazine, 79 Cumberland St., was constructed 1713 during Charleston's proprietary period to store powder and weapons for the defense of the settlement. Reputed to be the oldest public building in the Carolinas, the arsenal is a museum featuring artifacts and exhibits dealing with Colonial and Revolutionary War history. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
