Built as a fort in 1758, and later serving as the original home of the Citadel Military College, this distinctive hotel features Colonial-style décor in its large two-room suites. The property is located adjacent to Marion Square, a large downtown park and 1 block from the visitors center where most tours originate.
Smoke free premises. 153 units, some two bedrooms. 5 stories, interior corridors.
I would NEVER stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone.
Pros: The location of this hotel is wonderful and the staff who work during breakfast service are exceptional.
Cons: Unfortunately, there are very few positive things I can say about this hotel. The rooms are extremely small and very worn. The hotel is too pricey for the condition of the rooms which feel much more like an airport hotel than a downtown hotel.
Pros: Friendly staff. Breakfast & location.
Cons: The mattress could have more support.
We came to Charleston for a girls vacation and were very pleased with our experience. The hotel was located within walking distance to all the main attractions and great shopping and restaurants. The feel of the hotel fits the southern historic atmosphere of Charleston which was very cool. The breakfast was delicious and the staff were so pleasant and were willing to go out of their way to meet your individual needs. I would return for sure to this hotel!
Pros: The staff at the hotel were more than helpful and showed that hallmark southern hospitality. They made our visit comfortable.
Pros: The architecture, location and history of this hotel were superb. While I often choose more economical accommodations, this hotel was so well located that I felt I saved a lot of time in getting around. Wonderful to be right next to the visitors' center
Cons: Our room did not have any outdoor windows, which was OK, but the result was that our bedroom was sometimes too dark to get good light to look for things in our luggage or purses. It would help if there was another light source in the bedrooms.the
Cons: parking room clean up noise from above way over priced for what you got
Pros: The staff was very good
Cons: Rooms were small elevators were not reliable and parking was expensive.
Pros: Easy acess to visitor's center and 'The Alley'. Loved Coast..
Cons: Our window had a crack in it (Room 325).

Very nice. Offered happy hour and full cook to order breakfast. Bed was very comfortable, room was large. Only complaint was the bed room curtain did not fully close and the parking garage lights shined into our room directly in our faces ALL NIGHT. Got little sleep due to the light but otherwise a nice hotel.
Pros: Clean, nice imenities, everything was a block or two away. Great location.
Cons: The light shining in my face all night. Really could have used a good nights sleep after all that walking and downtown entertainment.
Pros: My room was never cleaned the 4 days I was there. I had to request it on day. I was fed up and didn't bother asking again.
Cons: My room was never cleaned the 4 days I was there. I had to request it twice, I was fed up and didn't bother asking again. Breakfast was horrible. I ordered a omelette and it was so greasy. Not to mention, the cook used his hands to make it.
