Pros: My wife and I enjoyed the Inn very much. The hospitality of the Staff, the Inn's history, the location. All was great with just one exception!
Cons: At the end of our stay we always like to help out the attendant who services our room so we always clean up as much as we can so there isn't as much to do: collect the trash; wipe down the sink, faucet, and shower; place back all of the guest reading material from the Inn and furniture, along with collecting all of the towels and sheets into one pile that need washing. When we went to strip the bed, it appeared the the protective pad cover had been soiled many times over and not washed. The Inn keepers could have laundered the mattress pad protective cover. It kind of left a bad impression on our otherwise excellent stay at the Inn. Ugh! So, we put the bed back together because we didn't want the attendant to to think the soiling was from us.

Pros: Exceptional place to stay to see historic Charleston. Staff is very kind and helpful. This is by far the best place to stay for a bed and breakfast feel.

Pros: We liked everything! The staff was so attentive to our needs. Margo and Zack were just two that helped make our family girls weekend memorable. Thank you for all your help. Also thank you Maurice, you were great also.

Pros: The John Rutledge House Inn is advertised as a Bed & Breakfast, but it is probably more accurately described as an Inn. Of course, B&B's can range from a bedroom in owner's home to a set of bedroom suites with separate owner's living quarters to a full scale inn. The John Rutledge House Inn is a full scale inn. They have staff at the front desk 24x7 to address your every need. If the owners live at the Inn, it is not apparent. We only saw the front desk concierges, the manager, the maid and the waiter. The rooms have every amenity you would expect in a fine hotel, and the historical aspect makes it so much more interesting than a hotel. All upgrades have been done to ensure the guests' 21st century needs are met. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We appreciated little extras that were provided like a) bottles of cold water on the rear porch to pick up at your convenience before striking out on a tour, and b) afternoon (4:30-6:00) light appetizers with port and sherry.
Cons: We did not stay in the main house but in one of the carriage houses in the rear of the property. Those rooms may be a little smaller than the rooms and suites in the main house. The only other potentially downfall of that location is that in bad weather, the lack of a covered walkway could make for a wet trek to the main house. The only thing that keeps us from rating the John Rutledge House Inn five-stars is the variety/quality of the breakfasts. They offer some standard options like eggs (cooked one of three ways), fruit, assorted breads and yogurt as well as one "specialty" dish that changed each day. We have stayed at much smaller B&B's and much cheaper B&B's which make breakfast the experience of the stay. That is not the case here. It was certainly adequate and tasted fine, but there was nothing about which to marvel.

Pros: The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. It was so comfortable. The lounge was delightful, including the sherry on the sideboard, and lots of history about the beautiful house. It was like stepping back in time, with modern day comforts. Great location too and choice of where to have breakfast, which was cooked to order with plenty of choice.
Cons: Leaving!!
