Hobcaw Barony, 22 Hobcaw Rd., is a 16,000-acre wildlife refuge owned by the Belle W. Baruch Foundation and operated as a research, conservation and education facility. Staff-guided tours and programs are offered year-round and include the plantations, former rice fields, forests, marshes and swamps. Audiovisual presentations, field studies, walks and focus tours are available at specific times as public programs. The Discovery Center museum features exhibits about area history, enslaved labor, the Bernard Baruch family, environmental research, a 1,200-gallon saltwater aquarium, and local flora and fauna.

Note: Access to the grounds is by guided tour only. Inquire about weather policies and accessibility of seasonal programs and hikes; comfortable shoes, water, sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended. Strollers and car seats are not permitted on buses.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
