Hampton Plantation State Historic Site is at 1950 Rutledge Rd. The focus of this 274-acre park is the two-story Georgian grand mansion that grew from a six-room farmhouse built 1730-50 on this former rice plantation. The building is unfurnished in order to show its architectural detail, and walls have cutaway sections to reveal construction techniques. Fishing and nature trails are offered. Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Park admission is free. Mansion $7.50; $3.75 (S.C. senior citizens); $3.50 (ages 6-15).
Hours: Park daily 9-6, Apr.-Oct.; 9-5, rest of year. Guided tours of the mansion are given daily on the hour 10-3. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.
