Hampton Plantation State Historic Site is at 1950 Rutledge Rd. The focus of this 274-acre park is the two-story Georgian grand mansion that grew from a six-room farmhouse built 1730-50 on this former rice plantation. The building is unfurnished in order to show its architectural detail, and walls have cutaway sections to reveal construction techniques. Fishing and nature trails are offered.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
Park admission is free. Mansion $7.50; $3.75 (S.C. senior citizens); $3.50 (ages 6-15).
Hours: Park daily 9-6, Apr.-Oct.; 9-5, rest of year. Guided tours of the mansion are given Mon.-Tues. and Fri. at noon and 2, Sat.-Sun. at 10, noon and 2. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. Allow 1 hour minimum.
