AAA Editor Notes
Caw Caw Interpretive Center is at 5200 Savannah Hwy. This 654-acre site within the Caw Caw Swamp contains remnants of 18th- and 19th-century rice plantations. Original earthen dikes and canals illustrate how the swampland was drained for cultivation. Now a wildlife sanctuary, the site provides a diverse habitat for more than 350 animal species. A 6-mile interpretive trail winds through forests, swamp and marshes. Interpretive exhibits are included, and birding specialists offer bird walks twice a week.
Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
