Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site is on 44 acres 8 mi. s.w. via US 176 to 2677 Sardis Rd. The former site of secessionist Gov. William Henry Gist's cotton plantation, the park includes the governor's early 19th-century mansion, which features the original wooden-peg staircase, large period furnishings and some family clothing and belongings. The landscaped grounds offer gardens, nature trails and magnolia trees planted when the mansion was built.
